New York in the 1940s is the main inspiration behind the design of a drinks menu for the eclectic Dublin bar Idlewild. The menu is presented as a graphic novel of sorts, telling the story of “The Secret Affair” which a fictional account of an affair between Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe and United States President John F. Kennedy.
With this in mind I wanted to give the cover and the opening and closing pages the feel of a secret CIA document. The pages contained inside tell the story of “The Secret Affair” over a seven day period using illustrations highly influenced by the famous American graphic designer who’s work was widely prominent between the 1940’s and the 1960’s, Saul Bass.
